It's polo on a bike! It's fun! It's casual! And everyone's invited!
We meet every Sunday at 3pm in the At&t parking lot off of Orange Street between Grove and Audubon. All you need to bring is a bike, a helmet, a mallet if you have one, and a good attitude!
If you don't have a mallet and want to make your own, check below for links to some how-to guides!
Bike polo is a team sport that involves riding bicycles while hitting a ball through a goal with a mallet. Here are some basic rules:
-The game is played by two teams of three players each.
-Any type of bicycle is allowed.
-Mallets must resemble a croquet mallet with a wide side and a round end. Modified ski poles and plastic pipe are the most common.
... -For safety reasons, bike handlebars and mallet handles must be plugged.
-The game is played using a rubber street hockey ball.
-Goals are marked by two objects placed one bicycle length apart at opposite ends of the court.-If a goal marker is bumped out of place it is the responsibility of the player who bumped it to fix it.-The game begins when each team waits at its own goal line, the ball is positioned at center court, and someone yells "3 2 1 GO!" or something to that effect.-Goals may only be scored by hitting the ball off of the ends of the mallet. Pushing the ball through with the side of the head is called a "shuffle" and doesn't count for a goal even if the ball makes it through.-After a goal is scored, the team who scored returns to their half of the court. The team who was scored on takes possession of the ball.-If the ball is passed through the goal from behind the goal line, at least one pass must be made before the ball can be scored.
-Players must not touch the ground with their feet, or "foot-down". Each time a player's foot goes down, that player must "tap out" on the sideline at center court before touching the ball again. There will be a designated spot or object to hit.-Only "like contact" is allowed. Body to body, bike to bike, and mallet to mallet.-Games are played to 5 points, or limited to 10 or 20 minutes if a lot of people are waiting to play.
-Be nice, play fair, and have fun!
